I have been collecting Disney memorabilia for more than twenty-seven years, but my greatest passion has always been preserving the history behind the objects themselves. While I enjoy all facets of Disney collecting, my primary focus has become the pins created for the Cast Members, Imagineers, Cruise Line crew members, Disney Store employees, Adventures by Disney participants, and countless others who helped shape The Walt Disney Company from behind the scenes. Many of these pieces were never intended to become collectibles. They were presented in recognition of service, achievement, training, anniversaries, special events, or internal company initiatives. Because they were created for a specific purpose rather than for retail sale, they often preserve chapters of Disney history that might otherwise be forgotten. Whenever possible, I research the story behind each piece and include that history within my listings. I hope to document the significance of these artifacts and place them with collectors who appreciate not only their rarity, but the people, places, and moments they represent. Every pin tells a story, and preserving those stories has become just as important to me as preserving the pins themselves. Walt Disney built a company whose greatest achievement was never simply its attractions or merchandise, but the culture created by the people who brought his vision to life each day. Although Walt passed away in 1966, the company continued to evolve through the creativity and dedication of generations of Cast Members around the world. Many of the pieces I offer serve as tangible reminders of that continuing legacy. Description: For half a century, long before the first guests of the morning entered the Magic Kingdom, an unusual Disney tradition periodically transformed the Rivers of America into a fiercely competitive racecourse. Canoe Races of the World, the Cast Member tradition began at Walt Disney World in 1974. Teams of Disney Cast Members climbed into canoes and raced around the Rivers of America, creating an event largely invisible to ordinary park guests but deeply woven into the culture of the people who worked there. The theme for the 2024 competition was Geaux C. A playful Louisiana-inspired treatment created as Walt Disney World prepared for the opening of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. Approximately 80 teams of eight to ten Cast Members participated in the competition, with 24 teams advancing to the finals. This exceptionally scarce Cast Member pin was created in connection with that 2024 Geaux C. The design features Louis, the trumpet-playing alligator from Disney’s The Princess and the Frog, gleefully playing his trumpet beside the enormous yellow-and-purple GEAUX C. Musical notes, festive New Orleans-inspired colors and decorative elements surround the design, while 2024 appears prominently at lower right. Even the word Geaux was carefully chosen. The Louisiana-styled spelling of go connected the venerable Cast Member canoe race directly to the world of Princess Tiana, Louis and the bayou, making the pin unmistakably representative of this particular moment in Walt Disney World history. But circumstances that followed the race have given the pin a historical significance its creators may never have anticipated. Later in 2024, Disney announced that major changes were coming to Frontierland. The Rivers of America, Tom Sawyer Island and the Liberty Square Riverboat would ultimately disappear as the area was redeveloped for a new Cars-themed expansion. The Rivers of America permanently closed to guests following operations on July 6, 2025. Extensive research has uncovered no evidence of another Walt Disney World C. Competition taking place on the Rivers of America after the 2024 Geaux C. With the river subsequently closed, drained and removed, the 2024 race therefore appears to have been the final C. Ever held on the Magic Kingdom’s Rivers of America. The symmetry is remarkable. 1974 Walt Disney World’s C. Celebrates its 50th season. Is held on the Rivers of America. 2025 The Rivers of America permanently closes. What began there half a century earlier appears to have ended there with its 50th anniversary season. Disney could someday continue or reinvent C. Elsewhere, so this pin should not be interpreted as necessarily representing the final C. Event in Walt Disney World history. Rather, it represents something that can never be recreated: the apparent final running of C. On the Rivers of America, the body of water that had been home to the Walt Disney World tradition for fifty years. That distinction makes this much more than another Disney character pin. It is an artifact from an internal Cast Member tradition that generations of ordinary Walt Disney World guests may never even have known existed, commemorating the final chapter of a competition whose history stretched across five decades of the Magic Kingdom. The pin uses two posts for stability. The actual production quantity and precise method of distribution remain unknown. To date, this is the only example I have personally encountered, and despite extensive searching I have been unable to locate another example offered for sale or documented within the major online Disney pin resources. No claim is therefore made regarding a specific edition size; its rarity is described solely on the basis of presently observable examples. For collectors of Walt Disney World Cast Member memorabilia, Princess and the Frog, extinct Magic Kingdom attractions, or artifacts documenting Disney traditions that have disappeared, this pin captures an extraordinary convergence of history.
