From the Disney Theme Park Collection. Contains: Spaceship Earth structure, extra track (approx 1 foot), and 1 support column. Some assembly required, but it is very easy to put together. This item has never been used, except to assemble it for the picture. Item is in excellent condition. Slight discoloration from age (see pictures). Contains original box and packaging. Spaceship Earth, the architectural symbol of Epcot at the Walt Disney World Resort, encompasses the theme park’s essence of historical and future discoveries. Opened October 1, 1982, Epcot was designed to be a showplace for man’s achievements; past, present and future. Not only the park’s icon, Spaceship Earth is also an attraction that navigates guests through forty thousand years of human history, highlighting milestones in communication that have been vital to man’s survival. It took two years and two months to construct Spaceship Earth, which is actually two separate spherical structures, one inside the other. The exterior sphere is constructed from 11,324 triangles made from a material called alucobond. The structure stands 180 feet tall and weighs approximately 16 million pounds; more than three times heavier than a space shuttle fully prepared for launch. Over 100 steel piles were driven 120 to 150 feet under the ground to support the three pair of legs that Spaceship Earth sits upon. This would be a great addition for any Disney collection or as a Christmas present. Please message me with any questions.
